  3. "SCOUTSYS" Troop Management System

  6. "SCOUTSYS" requires the following minimum system configuration:
  7.  
  8.     -  DOS Version 3.3 or higher (earlier versions of DOS only allow 20
  9.        file handles to open at a time. This includes those file handles
  10.        used for the Screen, Keyboard, Printer, etc.),
  11.  
  12.     - 512K or more of memory,
  13.  
  14.     - a hard drive with at least 1.5 megabytes of free space,
  15.  
  16.     - a printer which supports the IBM character set (Graphics)
  17.     
  18.     
  19. In addition,  your CONFIG.SYS file must contain a line showing at least
  20. the following number of files:
  21.     
  22.     FILES=60
  23.     
  24. If  you  have a CONFIG.SYS file that does not contain this  line  (  or
  25. FILES are less than 60), you must edit your CONFIG.SYS file so it does.
  26. Use any ASCII text editor or your DOS editor to modify the file.  Refer
  27. to  your DOS manual if necessary.  Be sure to reboot your  computer  to
  28. implement the changes.

  31. "SCOUTSYS"  has been tested on 4.77  Mhz IBM XT's, 286 compatibles, 386
  32. compatibles  and 486  compatibles.  Obviously the response time on  the
  33. 486's  was  superb,  but even on the XT's the response time  was  good.
  34. Every effort has been made to ensure that "SCOUTSYS"  will run properly
  35. on any size machine with the minimum system requirements shown above.

  38. Files included:
  39.  
  40.         READ.ME      - This file.
  41.         PROGRAMS.ZIP - Contains the executable programs and documentation.
  42.         DEMODATA.ZIP - Contains a set of legitimate data for playing with.
  43.         EMPTYDAT.ZIP - Contains a set of empty databases ready for input of
  44.                        your records.

  46. It is highly recommended that you create a separate directory for "SCOUTSYS".
  47. Simply type at the DOS prompt:
  48.  
  49.         MD C:\SCOUTSYS
  50.         CD C:\SCOUTSYS
  51.  
  52. Copy the files above into the new directory.
  53.  
  54. You should unzip PROGRAMS.ZIP first.
  55.  
  56. You can print the documentation by typing at the DOS prompt:
  57.  
  58.         PRINT SCOUTSYS.DOC
  59.  
  60. Next unzip DEMODATA.ZIP.
  61.  
  62. Start the system by typing SCOUTSYS. By using the Demo Data you can evaluate
  63. the system thoroughly. Do not be afraid to try anything. After all, it's only
  64. Demo Data. Actually, it is real data from a real troop, only the addresses and
  65. phone numbers have been changed to protect the innocent.

  67. If you decide to use "SCOUTSYS" for your own troop records, you should erase
  68. the demo data first. At the DOS prompt type:
  69.  
  70.         ERASE *.DBF
  71.         ERASE *.NTX
  72.  
  73. Unzip EMPTYDAT.ZIP and you will be ready to begin input of your own troop
  74. records. Print the Registration form to register your copy.
  75.  
  76. Feel free to distribute "SCOUTSYS" to other Scouters. This is a fund raising
  77. project for our troop, distributed as Shareware, to minimize costs. Please be
  78. sure you include PROGRAMS.ZIP, DEMODATA.ZIP, EMPTYDAT.ZIP and READ.ME if you
  79. give a copy to others.
